Following are our Editor’s Choices for best canister vacuums. We review and rate a lot of machines and as a result we have our favorites. You can’t go too wrong with any of these vacuums but you do have to consider the use – some machines are better at some things than others.

Miele S2 Olympus. A bargain for a Miele (under 300 USD) and fantastic consumer ratings and comments. One caveat is that it is best on bare floors and low pile carpeting.

- 7-year warranty on motor and casing
- top notch ratings by consumers (on Amazon 18 out of 19 gave this canister 5.0 stars out of 5.0)
- large bags
- can add the STB205-3 Full Sized Turbo Brush if you have high piled carpets. Or you can consider the Miele Titan.
- made in Germany
- Our score for the Miele S2 Olympus is 97.2

Hoover Commercial Portapower vacuum cleaner.

- very light at about 8 lbs
- doubles as a blower
- inexpensive (typically just over 100USD)
- strong suction
- comes with a number of attachments and tools
- long 33 foot power cord
- Our score for the Hoover Portapower is 93.1

Several other canister vacuum cleaners also get good ratings but these tend to be a little heavy and consumer ratings are limited. If you are in the market for a canister you may also want to look at:
