83.8 The Black & Decker PHV1810 is an update to the previously popular PHV1800 handheld vacuum. Like its predecessor it is an 18 volt cordless machine and it has a pivoting nozzle. It receives good grades from consumers and it is considered quite powerful. Even though the PHV1810 Pivot Vac is considered quieter than the PHV1800 there are still a number of consumer comments indicating that it is still a bit noisy. It comes with a brush and extendable crevice tool built into the nozzle (a feature consumers like). Like almost all handhelds it is bagless and the dirt canister is quite easy to empty. The dirt canister also comes out for washing and it is substantially larger than that found in the PHV1800. The PHV1810 also uses 3-stage filtration and the filters are washable. Cyclonic suction is used so dust and debris are kept away from the filters ensuring stronger suction between filter cleanings. An LED charging light indicates when the vacuum is charging and when the charge is complete. Some folks felt the battery lasted a sufficient amount of time on a single charge while others did not. This is often the case with cordless units (although some occasionally stand out with respect to battery performance – either good or bad). The pivoting nozzle has 10 different positions allowing one to vacuum in narrow and tricky areas. It also folds up reducing the footprint of the vacuum. The cleaning path of the PHV1810 is 4 inches.
