84.1  The Dyson DC33 vacuum cleaner gets good consumer ratings.  Its score is about average for a Dyson vacuum however.  In terms of uprights it gets better ratings than the old DC07 but doesn’t quite stack up to the likes of the Dyson DC25.  It has a lot of great features including a long power cord, a large dirt canister and very powerful suction. On the downside the unit is a little heavy at over 17lbs (although not as heavy as the DC28) and some owners complain about a grinding noise when vacuuming carpet.

The following table shows consumer ratings for the Dyson DC33 Multi-Floor vacuum cleaner:

Source # Vacuum Cleaner Ratings Avg Rating (1 to 5)
Amazon 75 3.8
Walmart 179 4.4
Viewpoints 14 4.29
Epinions 2 4.5

Sears 18 4.5
Best Buy 45 4.0
Home Depot 150 4.3
Lowes 9 3.8
Abt 4 4.5
QVC 20 2.5
Macy's 143 4.3

Weighted Score = 84.1

PROS
- Long power cord
- Large dirt canister
- Great at picking up pet hair
- Dirt canister is very easy to empty
- Easy to assemble
- Transfers between floor types easily
- Not too loud

CONS
- Suction power can be almost too much at times
- Hose tension pulls back on you a fair bit
- Sometimes makes a grinding noise when vacuuming carpet
- Not that easy to get under furniture

The DC33 is powered by a 12 amp motor and it uses cyclonic suction – like all Dyson uprights.  This is a technology that spins air very rapidly using centrifugal force to push the dirt out of the air and into the dirt canister.  This technology ensures no loss of suction over time and in the case of the DC33 generates a very powerful 240 air watts of suction. This appears to be the most powerful Dyson upright on the market today (at least according to specifications on the Dyson USA site).

This is a bagless vacuum cleaner and the dirt canister is said by owners to be very easy to empty.  The canister is also quite large with a capacity of 0.61 gallons, almost twice the capacity of the DC25 dirt canister.  The canister is made of clear plastic so it is easy to determine when it needs to be emptied.

This Dyson is a fixed wheel upright and it does not use the famous Ball technology seen on some of their other uprights.  Some consumers like the Ball means of locomotion but others do not.  The brushbar on the DC33 is motorized and there are on/off controls. Being able to turn the brushbar off is important when cleaning bare floors.

HEPA filtration is standard with this machine and is a feature that many allergy or asthma sufferers like.  The HEPA filter is lifetime washable.  There are also a few tools that come with the DC33 Multi-Floor and they store on-board:

- Stair tool
- Combination crevice tool and brush tool

A telescopic wand is also included and combined with the vacuum hose it provides a full 15.7 feet of reach.

They DC33 Multi-Floor weighs 17.6 lbs and has a lengthy 35 foot power cord.  It also features automatic nozzle height adjustment that ensures an optimal vacuuming distance from whatever floor surface you are working on.  The machine has a 13 inch wide cleaning path and carries a 5-year parts and labor warranty.
