81.7  Consumer ratings for the Hoover SH40060 place it in the lower end of the “good” range.  This is a bagless, canister vacuum with a powered nozzle and HEPA filtration.  Many owners are impressed with the suction and also the reasonable price of the machine but quite a few feel the power cord is too short and some have resorted to adding an extension cord.

Consumer likes and dislikes related to this Hoover MultiCyclonic Canister have been gathered from several sites and these are provided below:

 PROS
- Strong suction
- Capable on both hard floors and carpet
- Dirt canister is easy to detach and empty
- Not too loud
- Good value for money

CONS
- A few folks have had problems with the brushbar seizing or even breaking (but this is not too common)
- Power cord is too short (common complaint)
- Hose is a little short
- Hose connection to canister does not swivel

Check out the Hoover SH40060 on Amazon.

The SH40060 uses multiple cyclones to create suction.  This technology assures the suction will not fade as the dirt canister is filling.  The suction created by this unit is said by most owners to be quite strong and most comments related to this are positive.

It comes with HEPA filtration which helps remove allergens such as dust mites, pollen, ragweed, etc. from the air.  The filter is also washable which helps to save money over time.

Probably the biggest consumer “concern” related to the Hoover SH40060 is the short power cord.  The power cord is 17 feet long and compared to most other vacuums on the market this is indeed short.  Some folks have resorted to using an extension cord and feel that this is an effective and not too troublesome solution.

The brushroll on the nozzle can be turned on and off with the flick of a switch and the vacuum is thereby capable of vacuuming both carpet and bare floors.  The nozzle also has a swivel head which makes it more maneuverable.  The cleaning path width is 11 inches – this is good from the point of view of getting under, around and between different kinds of furniture but it can also be a slight drawback as each “stroke” of the nozzle across the floor doesn’t cover a particularly large area.

On-board tools include a dusting brush and an extension wand.  The vacuum also weighs a hefty 20 lbs (although this doesn’t appear to be much of an issue to most owners), comes in metallic blue and carries a 1 year warranty.

The following table shows consumer ratings for the Hoover MultiCyclonic Canister SH40060 vacuum cleaner:

Source # Vacuum Cleaner Ratings Avg Rating (1 to 5)
Amazon 56 4.1
Target 54 4.07
Future Shop 1 4.0

We have had the brushroll assembly sieze up two times in less than a year.
It's like the plastic parts at the ends get hot and melt and fuse together.
Haven't even been able to replace the 2nd one so far, they are out of
stock. I'm guessing this is happening fairly often. What a pos design.
Getting frustrated and thinking I just need to buy a new vac. And NEVER
another Hoover.

Same problem as others have had. Its likely the general brush design was
fine, but the parts on many of these brushes were not made to spec. The
parts are NOT lining up correctly - so these parts are rubbing against each
other when the brush spins - the unit was flat out built wrong. The rest
of the vac is good - would be happy with it if the brush didn't have such a
big flaw.

After 3 uses by a mature adult in a small home in two small carpeted rooms,
the brushroll got hot and seized. Took it to the not-so-local vacuum repair
shop (22 miles away) only to have it work temporarily when the technician
turned it on. Got it home, turned it on, roller snapped away from housing
rendering the vacuum completely useless. What a disappointment.
