The Miele S4212 Neptune is part of the Miele S4 series of canisters.  There are a number of consumer ratings on Amazon but little elsewhere.  Ratings on Amazon are stellar.  The Neptune comes with a Turbo Brush which makes it effective on low to medium pile carpet and pet hair.  The less expensive Miele S4 is the S4212 Polaris which is best on low pile carpet and bare floors.

The Miele S4212 Neptune is powered by a 1200 watt motor that comes with a 7-year warranty (on the motor itself).  The vacuum is also noise insulated and consumer comments indicate it is very quiet.  Suction on this unit is purported to be very strong and it can also be dialed down – there are 6 suction settings on the vacuum.  This feature is very useful when vacuuming delicate rugs or other items.

The power cord on the Neptune is only about 21 feet.  This causes some complaints from consumers and indeed when compared to many other vacuums this is rather short.  All vacuums in the S4 series are bagged and have a 3.7 quart capacity bag (which is less than the S2 series).  The Neptune comes with a Turbo brush for carpets and pet hair, and a parquet floor brush.

There is a shutoff switch if the vacuum experiences overheating and an indicator to tell you if there is a clog and also when the dustbag requires changing.  Filtration on the Neptune is managed by the “Super Air Clean Filter” that removes about 94% of airborne particles 0.3 microns in diameter or larger.  This is not quite as effective as HEPA filtration (removes 99.7% of airborne particles 0.3 micron or larger). However optional Active HEPA and/or Active Air Clean filters can be added to the Neptune.  The “Active” component of these filters indicates the use of activate charcoal which absorbs odors from the dust bag.

The following table shows consumer ratings for the Miele Neptune canister vacuum:
