Consumers spend billions of dollars on vacuum cleaners every year in the US. With more than 400 models to choose from, how can consumers be sure they’re making the right purchase? There are many sources of information consumers can turn to. However, most sources that provide vacuum cleaner information also include a lot of marketing noise. While this information can be important when making a buying decision, it doesn’t necessarily help in making the most prudent purchase. There are a lot of vacuum cleaners on the market today that look great on paper but when put to the test by consumers, fail miserably. Enter the consumer rating. This can be the manufacturer’s best friend or worst nightmare. Quality consumer ratings help strip away the marketing talk and allow potential buyers to get insights into the “real” product with all its faults and virtues. Of course, not all consumer reviews are useful and a proper sample size is necessary to be able to judge a machine’s worthiness. For example, if a vacuum cleaner is rated 5 stars out of 5 by three consumers at one source, it is not necessarily a better machine than a vacuum cleaner rated 4.3 stars out of 5 by 275 consumers from five different sources. At Vacuum Cleaner Ratings our Top Rated Vacuums lists require a vacuum to have a minimum of 20 consumer ratings from at least two different sources. Vacuum Cleaner Ratings compiles consumer ratings from many quality online sources, organizes them into tables and publishes weighted average scores for each vacuum cleaner model. This lets consumers make quick and easy vacuum cleaner comparisons. Every so often we publish our lists of the top consumer rated vacuums. These lists cover upright vacuums, canister vacuums, handheld vacuums and stick vacuums. This year’s lists cover a total of 16 vacuums, headlined by the Sebo X4, Miele S2 Olympus, Bissell Pet Hair Eraser and Hoover Linx. The Internet is littered with people asking for vacuum cleaner purchasing advice from folks who may have “experienced” a particular vacuum or who may have an opinion on the best vacuum cleaner for specific needs (pet hair, deep pile carpet, hardwood floors, etc.). Clearly the public feels strongly about the value of consumer input. But making sense out of the often confusing information on hundreds of sites is a difficult job. That’s why vacuum cleaner consumer ratings can be a buyer’s most valuable decision-making tool.
